Legacy generic top-level domains
All 18 legacy gTLDs currently delegated. These are the pre-2012 generics — .com, .net, .org and the sponsored strings. Registrar figures for them come from the same ICANN monthly reports as the new gTLDs. Domain counts come from daily zone files, or from the registry's own monthly report to ICANN where no zone file is available to us; registry operator comes from the IANA Root Zone Database and the technical backend is inferred from nameservers, RDAP endpoints and reverse DNS.
reported means the count came from the registry's own monthly report to ICANN rather than from a zone file, and is that registry's figure for the month shown — not a count taken today. No zone file is available to us for those TLDs, which is why they have no daily figure and no change columns. Both clocks explained.
Data currency. Domain counts on this page are from zone files dated and refresh daily. Registrar figures are from ICANN's monthly registry reports for April 2026, which ICANN publishes about three months in arrears; zone files contain no registrar information, so no fresher source exists.
